i can’t be your therapist

sorry.

“You must forge for yourself an identity before you can give it up. You must develop an ego before you can lose it.”

I’ve bound my hands to keep myself from giving.  It stings, but I need to hold still for a while- do me for a while.

This isn’t selfishness, Emily.  This is self-care.

3 Important Dont’s

  1. Don’t promise when you’re happy.
  2. Don’t reply when you’re angry.
  3. Don’t decide when you’re sad.

If you are trapped in a nightmare you will probably be more strongly motivated to awaken than someone who is just caught in the ups and downs of an ordinary dream.

Don’t ask what the world needs, ask what makes you come alive. Then do that. Because what the world needs is people who have come alive.

On Self Respect by Joan Dideon

“To have that sense of one’s intrinsic worth which constitutes self-respect is potentially to have everything: the ability to discriminate, to love and to remain indifferent. To lack it is to be locked within oneself, paradoxically incapable of either love or indifference. If we do not respect ourselves, we are on the one hand forced to despise those who have so few resources as to consort with us, so little perception as to remain blind to our fatal weaknesses. On the other, we are pecularily in thrall to everyone we see, curiously determined to live out - since our self-image is untenable - their false notions of us.

We flatter ourselves by thinking this compulsion to please others an attractive trait: a gist for imaginative empathy, evidence of our willingness to give.”

2 Corinthians 6:11-13

“Dear, dear Corinthians, I can’t tell you how much I long for you to enter this wide-open, spacious life.  We didn’t fence you in. The smallness you feel comes from within you. Your lives aren’t small, but you’re living them in a small way.  I’m speaking as plainly as I can and with great affection. Open up your lives. Live openly and expansively!”

Live simply, love generously, care deeply and speak kindly.
